About Us

We Believe the Best
Trips Start at Home.

A team of passionate family travelers on a mission to help you discover the extraordinary adventures hiding just around the corner.

Our Mission

Rediscovering America,
One Family at a Time.

At The Great American Family Vacation, we started with a simple idea: some of the most breathtaking places on earth are right outside your front door. Too often, families look far away for adventure when incredible experiences — mountain valleys, coastal highways, hidden small towns, and wide-open national parks — are within a day's drive.

We exist to change that. Our team of writers, road-trippers, and outdoor enthusiasts scours every corner of the United States to bring you honest, family-tested guides that make planning your next getaway feel less like homework and more like the adventure itself.

What We Stand For

The Values That Guide Every Guide

Family First, Always

Every recommendation is made with real families in mind — the logistics, the budget, the kids in the back seat, all of it.

Honest & Independent

We visit the places we write about. Our opinions are our own — no paid placements, no fluff, just real experiences.

Leave It Better

We champion responsible travel — respecting the land, supporting local communities, and helping families travel with intention.

The Writers

The Folks Behind the Stories

Our writers are parents, campers, hikers, and road warriors. They live these trips — and write about them so you can too.

Margaret "Meg" Calloway

Lead Travel Writer

A mother of three from Colorado, Meg has logged over 40 road trips across 34 states. She specializes in national park itineraries and camping-friendly destinations for families with young kids.

Daniel Reyes

Road Trip Correspondent

Daniel grew up on Route 66 and has never stopped driving. His coverage spans the American Southwest and Great Plains, with a particular love for off-the-beaten-path small towns and roadside americana.

Sarah Beth Holloway

Outdoor & Camping Editor

Sarah Beth traded her city apartment for a camper van five years ago and never looked back. She covers all things camping — from first-time tent setups to full RV trip planning — with warmth, humor, and hard-won wisdom.

Tom Abernathy

Family Adventure Writer

A former park ranger turned writer, Tom brings deep knowledge of America's trail systems and wilderness areas. He focuses on making outdoor adventure accessible — and genuinely fun — for families of all ages and abilities.
